MTN Ghana Commits $2 Million to Train One Million Youth in Coding and Digital Skills

MTN Ghana has pledged US$2 million to support the Government of Ghana’s One Million Coders Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at equipping one million young Ghanaians with coding and digital skills. The move is part of efforts to empower youth, drive innovation, and boost the country’s participation in the digital economy.

The funding will enable the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations to provide training in coding, software development, and other future-ready competencies, helping young people access opportunities in technology-driven industries and contribute to national development.

Speaking on the initiative, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett emphasized the company’s commitment to youth empowerment and digital inclusion. “Through our support for the One Million Coders Programme, we are creating pathways for young people to acquire new skills, embrace innovation, and access opportunities in the digital economy. When we invest in our youth, we invest in the long-term prosperity of our nation,” he said.

The programme forms a key pillar of Ghana’s digitalisation agenda, designed to build a strong pool of digital talent to support public-sector modernisation, private-sector growth, entrepreneurship, and job creation.

MTN Ghana’s support aligns with the company’s broader ESG strategy, focusing on digital inclusion, education, and youth development. In addition to the contribution, MTN Ghana is investing in a US$25 million ICT Centre to serve as a hub for innovation, skills training, and collaboration, while its foundation continues to back programmes like Girls in ICT, strengthening digital education nationwide.

With this initiative, MTN Ghana underscores its long-term commitment to national development, leveraging technology and partnerships to create a digitally skilled generation capable of shaping Ghana’s future.
