Ghana Partners With Google to Bring AI Education to Local Languages

Ghana has signed a strategic partnership with Google to integrate artificial intelligence tools in local languages into the national education system, the government announced on Friday. The initiative aims to modernize learning, expand access to quality education, and improve inclusion for rural and vulnerable populations.

Under the program, AI-driven educational tools will be deployed in languages including Twi, Ewe, Dagbani, and Hausa, taking into account local accents and linguistic variations to ensure accessibility. Users will be able to access the platform without data charges, with content aligned to Ghana’s national curriculum and including resources on responsible AI use in teaching and learning.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu highlighted that including widely spoken languages such as Hausa would strengthen regional integration and position Ghana as a leading AI innovation hub in Africa.

The partnership builds on Google’s $37 million AI investment across Africa announced in 2025, supporting AI research, digital skills development, and the launch of an AI Community Center in Accra. The initiative seeks to reduce language barriers in education, improve workforce readiness, and provide equitable learning opportunities nationwide, especially in areas where literacy rates remain low.
