Asake Meets Ghana President John Mahama After AfroFuture Performance in Accra

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake met with Ghanaian President John Mahama following his headline performance at the 2025 AfroFuture Ghana festival in Accra, drawing widespread attention on social media.

The festival, held at El-Wak Stadium as part of the annual “December in GH” celebrations, saw Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, deliver a high-energy performance on the opening day. A video from the encounter shows the singer arriving with his team and exchanging warm greetings with President Mahama and other dignitaries, including actor-politician John Dumelo and businessman Ibrahima Mahama.

During the interaction, President Mahama made a light-hearted reference to an incident at the stadium on December 28, when a fan allegedly fired a gun during Asake’s concert. The president joked, “So he is the one the guy fired the gun for?” Upon confirmation, he added, “And he ended up in trouble,” eliciting laughter from those present.

Asake expressed regret over the incident and requested leniency for the suspect, describing the act as a moment of uncontrolled excitement. President Mahama, however, reaffirmed the rule of law, stating, “Don’t worry about it. The law is the law.” The individual involved was subsequently arrested for illegal possession and discharge of a firearm at a public event.

Asake rose to prominence in 2020 with the hit single “Lady” and signed with YBNL Nation in February 2022. He has released three albums — Mr Money With The Vibes (2022), Work of Art (2023), and Lungu Boy (2024) — and remains one of the most influential figures in contemporary Nigerian music. A Grammy-nominated artist, he earned a nod for Best African Music Performance at this year’s awards, losing to fellow Nigerian singer Tems.

Recently, Asake announced his relocation to Los Angeles, United States, as he continues to expand his international footprint.
