French retail giant Carrefour Group is set to take over Shoprite’s franchise operations in Ghana, following a new partnership with distributor Brands For All, which acquired the country’s seven Shoprite hypermarkets in November 2025.
Under the agreement, all seven outlets will be rebranded as Carrefour stores, with the first openings expected by April 2026, according to a statement issued on Monday, December 15, 2025. The move aligns with Carrefour’s broader expansion strategy across Africa and follows Shoprite’s decision to exit the Ghanaian market to refocus on South Africa.
Brands For All, which already franchises international retail brands such as Decathlon and Yves Rocher across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, will operate the stores with technical and operational support from Carrefour International. The partnership also includes an ambitious growth plan that will see five additional Carrefour outlets opened in Ghana by 2028.
Executive Director of Carrefour International, Patrick Lasfargues, said the agreement reflects the strength of Carrefour’s franchise-led growth strategy and marks Ghana as one of the new markets targeted under the group’s 2026 strategic plan.
Brands For All CEO, Geoffrey Fadoul, described the partnership as a significant milestone, noting that the collaboration would combine local market knowledge with Carrefour’s global retail expertise to deliver quality, affordable products tailored to Ghanaian consumers.
Carrefour operates more than 15,000 stores in over 40 countries worldwide, while Brands For All continues to expand the footprint of major international brands across Africa and the Middle East.
