Parliament Debates Proposed New Tax Measures

The Parliament of Ghana has begun discussions on a new set of tax measures proposed by the Ministry of Finance as part of efforts to stabilize the country’s economy.

According to government officials, the tax adjustments are necessary to help increase revenue, support public spending, and improve the nation’s financial standing. They argue that the measures will help reduce budget pressure and strengthen the economy in the long term.

However, members of the opposition have strongly criticized the proposal, saying the new taxes will worsen the financial burden on ordinary citizens and businesses. They warned that many families are already struggling due to rising food prices, transportation costs, and high utility bills.

Debate is expected to continue through the week, as lawmakers attempt to reach a compromise that balances economic recovery with public welfare. Stakeholders, including business associations and civil society groups, are closely monitoring the discussions.
