Digital Realty Opens First Data Center in Ghana to Power Africa’s Digital Future

Global data infrastructure leader Digital Realty has officially opened its first data center in Accra, Ghana, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion across Africa. The facility, with an initial IT load capacity of 1.7 megawatts, is designed to support Ghana’s fast-growing demand for cloud services, data storage, and digital connectivity.

Located strategically within Accra’s technology corridor, the new data center provides direct access to the 2Africa subsea cable system, one of the largest subsea cable projects in the world. This connection will improve internet speeds, reduce latency, and enhance data reliability for businesses and consumers across West Africa.

Digital Realty officials stated that the investment reflects confidence in Ghana’s stable economy and digital transformation agenda. The project also aligns with government efforts to make the country a regional hub for digital innovation and data-driven growth.

Industry experts believe the launch will attract major global tech players to establish local operations, strengthen cybersecurity capacity, and expand opportunities in fintech, cloud computing, and e-commerce.
