“His Life Was Sustained by Grace” Amoako Atta Reflects on Daddy Lumba’s Final Days

Accra, Ghana Renowned gospel preacher Apostle Amoako Atta has paid an emotional tribute to highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, following news of his death, describing his final moments as “a miracle of grace.”

The music icon passed away peacefully at his Accra residence on Monday, according to a family spokesperson. Though the exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed, Daddy Lumba had long battled various health challenges, which were often kept private.

In an interview on Vision1 FM shortly after the news broke, Apostle Atta revealed that he had foreseen the musician’s passing and had long regarded his continued survival as nothing short of divine mercy.

“I knew his remaining days on earth were only by grace,” Amoako Atta said solemnly. “Each time I prayed for him, I felt the Spirit say: ‘His time draws near, but I will hold him a little longer.’”

Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential and beloved musicians, was known for blending traditional highlife with modern sounds. Over his four-decade career, he released over 30 albums, earning countless awards and the unwavering admiration of fans across generations.

Though his health had noticeably declined in recent years, Lumba continued to perform occasionally, even releasing new music in 2022. His last public appearance was in April this year at a private music industry gathering in East Legon, where he looked frail but maintained his signature charisma.

Reacting to the loss, fellow musicians and industry figures expressed deep sorrow. “Lumba was a pillar of our music history,” said veteran musician Abrantie Amakye Dede. “His voice, his songwriting unmatched.”

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture also issued a statement calling the death “a monumental loss to Ghana’s creative legacy.” Plans are reportedly underway to honour the late star with a state-assisted funeral, though the family has yet to confirm.

Meanwhile, Amoako Atta called on Ghanaians to remember Daddy Lumba not just for his music, but for the spiritual journey he undertook in his final years. “He sought God in silence. He asked for mercy. And I believe he received it.”

Details of funeral arrangements are expected in the coming days as fans continue to flood social media with tributes, photos, and memories of the man many called “The Maestro.”

Daddy Lumba was 60 years old.
