Authorities in Effiakuma, Western Region, have confirmed the successful rescue of 25 individuals believed to be victims of a kidnapping ring, following a coordinated operation by security forces over the weekend.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, led to the arrest of five suspects who are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. According to the Ghana Police Service, the victims—comprised of both men and women—were discovered in a secured compound believed to be used as a holding site by the suspects.
“We acted on credible intelligence and conducted a swift raid that led to the safe rescue of all 25 victims without incident,” said Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Tabiri. “This is a significant breakthrough in our efforts to combat organised crime in the region.”
Preliminary investigations suggest the victims may have been abducted from various towns across the region, with some reportedly missing for weeks. Medical teams have since assessed the victims, who are now receiving psychological support and care.
Residents of Effiakuma have expressed shock and concern over the incident, with many praising the swift response of law enforcement agencies. Community leaders have called for increased police patrols and surveillance to prevent further criminal activities.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court later this week on multiple charges, including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward, assuring the public of confidentiality and protection.
