Walewale, North East Region – Security officials in Walewale have apprehended two young men in connection with the theft of a pistol belonging to an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service.
The suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were arrested following a swift investigation triggered by a report from the immigration officer about the missing sidearm. The weapon was allegedly stolen under unclear circumstances earlier this week.
According to local police sources, the suspects were picked up late Wednesday after intelligence led officers to their location within the municipality. Preliminary investigations suggest the pair had knowledge of the officer’s routines and may have planned the theft in advance.
Authorities have since recovered the pistol, and the suspects are currently in custody assisting with further investigations. Law enforcement agencies have commended the public for their cooperation and have urged citizens to continue sharing timely information to help combat crime in the area.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Immigration Service has reiterated its commitment to discipline and internal accountability, promising to support the police to ensure justice is served.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
