Some People’s Mouths Need Padlocks – Edudzi Tameklo Fires Back at Sam Okudzeto

Legal practitioner and National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Edudzi Tameklo, has launched a scathing rebuttal against veteran lawyer and Council of State member, Sam Okudzeto, following recent comments regarding the country’s judiciary.

Speaking in an interview, Tameklo expressed strong disapproval of Okudzeto’s remarks, suggesting that some individuals should refrain from making inflammatory public statements that could mislead the public or politicize sensitive judicial matters.

“There are some people in this country whose mouths should be padlocked,” Tameklo said pointedly. “They speak without consideration for the consequences or the integrity of the institutions they comment on.”

Tameklo’s reaction follows Okudzeto’s recent comments amid growing public discourse surrounding the suspension rumors of Ghana’s Chief Justice. The legal debate has intensified following a leaked petition and accusations of political interference in judicial processes.

Tameklo questioned whether the Chief Justice has been communicating with members of the Minority in Parliament, a speculation that has fueled calls for transparency and institutional accountability.

This sharp exchange comes at a time of heightened political tension, with the 2024 general elections drawing closer and various political figures weighing in on the judiciary’s role and independence.

The matter has sparked wider concern about the health of Ghana’s democracy, with critics warning against undermining judicial credibility and calling for a more measured and respectful tone in national conversations.
