No Need for State of Emergency in Keta Following Tidal Waves – Agbodza

Following the recent tidal wave incidents that have caused significant concern in the Keta area, Member of Parliament (MP) for the region, Kwame Agbodza, has stated that there is no immediate need for a state of emergency. The recent environmental event, which left many residents displaced and property damaged, has raised concerns among locals and some political leaders regarding the scale of the damage and the need for urgent action.

Agbodza, addressing the situation, reassured the public that while the damage is regrettable, the authorities are already taking proactive measures to address the situation. “There is no need for a state of emergency at this time. However, the government is fully aware of the urgency of the situation and is taking the necessary steps to provide support and aid to the affected communities,” Agbodza affirmed.

The tidal waves, which have hit several coastal communities in the Volta Region, are believed to be part of a larger environmental crisis that has worsened over time. Agbodza also mentioned ongoing discussions about improving sea defense mechanisms, with the Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project already in motion.

Residents of Keta have been advised to remain vigilant, and emergency response teams are on the ground to assist with immediate relief efforts. Agbodza emphasized that efforts are being made to prevent further devastation and to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected citizens.

The statement has been met with mixed reactions, with some residents expressing frustration over the delay in more immediate interventions, while others remain hopeful that government plans will provide long-term solutions.
