Former President John Dramani Mahama has called for a stronger partnership between the church and the government to drive national development. He urged Christian leaders to set aside denominational differences and work together to expand the church’s reach.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service with the clergy in Kumasi on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Mr. Mahama emphasized that churches are not just places of worship but institutions that shape values, support communities, and contribute to national progress.
Expanding the Church’s Impact
He encouraged religious leaders to extend their outreach, particularly in rural areas, by investing in job creation and community development projects.
“The church has always played a major role in Ghana’s development, and we must strengthen this partnership to bring about positive change,” he said.
He also highlighted the economic potential of churches, urging them to invest in business ventures that empower their members while upholding ethical practices.
Call for Christian Unity
Mr. Mahama cautioned against rivalry among Christian denominations, stating that competition weakens the church’s collective impact. Instead, he called for unity in establishing new congregations, particularly in underserved areas.
Describing the Ashanti Region as Ghana’s “Christian spiritual capital,” he emphasized the need for churches to work together in reaching communities that lack a strong Christian presence.
“Ashanti has the highest number of churches and men and women of God. We must use this blessing to reach
