Jospong Group of Companies Signs Major Export Agreement in Waste Management

Lagos, Nigeria – The Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) has achieved a significant milestone through its subsidiary, Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, by signing a groundbreaking export agreement with Germany’s FIMA Industries GmbH and Faun Umwelttechnik GmbH. The agreement, formalized on October 7, marks a major expansion of Zoomlion’s waste management capabilities in Nigeria.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior management from FIMA and representatives from the Federal Republic of Germany, facilitated by funding from the German government through Euler Hermes and Oddo BHF Bank.

Haider Said, Executive Director of Environment and Sanitation at JGC, and Habiba Abubakar, Country Director of Zoomlion Nigeria, signed the agreement alongside Markus Maierhofer, CEO of FIMA Industries. Mr. Said highlighted that the contract, valued at approximately 40 million Euros, will fund the establishment of three waste treatment plants in Nigeria, aimed at significantly reducing environmental impact.

“This project is expected to cut around 1.5 million tons of CO2 emissions annually,” Mr. Said stated, emphasizing the Jospong Group’s commitment to investing about 200 million dollars in Lagos State for waste management initiatives over the next 12 to 24 months.

Markus Maierhofer noted that this partnership represents a complete overhaul of waste management in Lagos, explaining that the initiative will facilitate recycling and composting, leading to a cleaner and safer environment. “This is a complete game-changer for it will help reduce waste throughout Lagos State,” he remarked.

Lucas Doerr, Head of Business Development Export at FAUN Umwelttechnik GmbH, outlined the waste management process, stating that waste will be collected and transported to designated transfer stations, then processed at a solid waste recycling plant before proper disposal at an engineered landfill management facility.

Both FIMA and Zoomlion are optimistic that this collaboration will promote sustainable practices and enhance waste management infrastructure across Africa. Mr. Doerr expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for their support, assuring that this milestone is just the beginning of further accomplishments in waste management innovation.
