Massive Demonstration in Accra Demands End to Chronic Power Shortages

Ghana’s capital, Accra, was shaken by a large-scale demonstration on Saturday as civil society groups rallied to demand an end to the country’s persistent power shortages.

The protest, strategically timed to begin at dusk when many neighborhoods experience electricity cuts, temporarily halted vehicular traffic on the usually bustling Madina Road.

The rally was spearheaded by actress Yvonne Nelson and included a coalition of civil society groups, entertainers, and business owners, all united in urging the government to find a permanent solution to the ongoing energy crisis.
