The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has extended an apology to passengers affected by power outages at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday, March 1, 2024. Travelers to and from various destinations were left stranded on the night of March 1 due to power failures at the airport.
In a Facebook post dated March 2, GACL acknowledged the incident and provided an explanation. According to the statement, the backup generators, which typically activate within 3–5 seconds of a power cut, took approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds to start. GACL management expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the outage and assured passengers of their dedication to ensuring a seamless travel experience.

The post also highlighted ongoing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, stating, “Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) wishes to confirm that Kotoka International Airport experienced intermittent power outages on Friday, 1st March 2024.”
“Our Gentsets, which normally kick-start within 3–5 seconds of an outage, took about 1 minute 30 seconds to kick in.”
