The Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed its calendar for a fresh voters’ registration drive in preparation for the upcoming December elections. The registration period is set to run from May 7 to May 27, as outlined in the EC’s official schedule. Preceding the registration, a 56-day public education campaign is slated to kick off on April 1, continuing until May 26, 2024.
Furthermore, the EC has outlined key milestones in its election preparation timeline, including the provision of the provisional voters’ register to political parties from July 9 to 18, 2024. A comprehensive exhibition of the voter register is scheduled to occur from July 15 to 24, 2024. The final voters’ register is expected to be submitted to political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024.
Nominations for candidates in both presidential and parliamentary elections will be accepted from September 9 to 13. The balloting process for positions on the presidential ballot paper is set for September 23, 2024, followed by parliamentary balloting on September 24, 2024. The EC has expressed its commitment to declaring the results of the 2024 presidential polls within three days of the voting exercise, contingent upon the successful execution of the outlined plan.
