Social Media Sensation Afua Asantewaa Aduonum Responds to Guinness World Records Announcement on Singing Marathon Attempt

In reaction to the recent announcement by the Guinness World Records (GWR) concerning her singing marathon attempt, social media sensation Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has addressed the situation.

GWR, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressed regret for Afua Asantewaa’s inability to break the record for the longest sing-a-thon by an individual.

Despite this, they conveyed hope for her to “make another attempt soon,” recognizing her effort as “inspirational for her fans.” In their statement on Friday, February 2024, GWR explained that the evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service. Consequently, her payment was refunded earlier in the month, and they extended best wishes to her for any future record attempts.

In response to the statement, the Ghanaian media personality revealed that she received the news just moments before hosting a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network, attended by President Nana Akufo-Addo. She stated, “I would announce my next line of action in a few days. Thank you all for your love and support.”

Afua Asantewaa initiated her record attempt for the GWR longest singing marathon by an individual in December 2023 with the goal of breaking the existing record of 105 hours.

After an impressive five days of continuous singing, she concluded her sing-a-thon attempt, lasting an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes. Ending her record attempt on an emotional note, Afua Asantewaa sang Osibisa’s ‘Woyaya’.

The national anthem was played later to honor and celebrate her efforts, and she was subsequently announced as a Tourism Ambassador by the Ghana Tourism Authority a few days later.
