News Report: Bawku Conflict Demands Political Will and Collaboration, Says KAIPTC Lecturer

A lecturer at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre (KAIPTC) has criticized the government, alleging a lack of political will to resolve the ongoing conflict in Bawku. Dr. Victor Doke, speaking in the wake of recent killings in the area involving unidentified gunmen and military personnel, highlighted the breakdown of trust between the community and state agencies. He emphasized the need for collaboration and coordination among security forces, which he argued has been lacking.

Dr. Doke pointed out that the insufficient resources allocated to security agencies contribute to the challenge, indicating a lack of political will. He called for increased investment in training and funding for these agencies, urging the government to involve civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) actively. The lecturer stressed the importance of sustained engagement with the community, emphasizing that periodic military interventions alone are insufficient to address the root causes of the conflict.

In addition, Dr. Doke urged collaboration with peace-focused NGOs to conduct awareness campaigns, sensitizing residents about the detrimental effects of the conflict on local development. He emphasized the necessity of encouraging residents to relinquish their firearms to achieve a lasting resolution and put an end to gun violence in the Bawku area.
