K.T. Hammond Submits Fresh Petition to NPP National Vetting Committee, Seeks Disqualification of Parliamentary Primaries Opponents

Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has lodged a renewed petition with the National Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging the disqualification of all three contenders in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

This comes after K.T. Hammond’s initial petition to the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee on January 2, 2024, seeking the disqualification of his main opponent, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, was rejected. The Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, led by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, cleared both candidates to commence their campaign for the primary.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the regional committee’s decision, K.T. Hammond has escalated his concerns to the National Vetting Committee. In the submitted petition, K.T. Hammond cites discontent with the regional committee’s ruling and claims that his opponents, including Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, are ineligible to participate in the parliamentary primaries as per Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution.

K.T. Hammond is urging the National Vetting Committee to disqualify his opponents based on the allegations he has raised, asserting that they do not align with the NPP and have made insufficient contributions to the progress of the constituency.

As the campaign intensifies ahead of the January 27 primaries, candidates are actively engaging with delegates in preparation for the upcoming election.
