NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu Rebuts Mahama’s Cheating Allegations in WASSCE Results

Angel Carbonu, the President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), has dismissed former President John Mahama’s recent claims of widespread cheating among senior high school graduates. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program, Mr. Carbonu emphasized the distinct nature of each examination, asserting that no two exams can be identical.

Former President Mahama had expressed concerns about the credibility of the recent WASSCE results, citing the high pass rates. He alleged instances of invigilators and teachers assisting students in cheating, cautioning about potential repercussions for the country’s educational system. In response, Mr. Carbonu challenged Mahama to provide statistical evidence supporting his claims, suggesting that there might be undisclosed information.

“The information the former President has will help all of us to resolve the matter,” Mr. Carbonu added. He clarified that not every teacher engages in cheating, and it is inaccurate to make sweeping statements about their performance. While acknowledging that a few teachers have been implicated in cheating, he stressed that it does not represent the broader teaching community.

Looking ahead, the NAGRAT President urged politicians to refrain from interfering in the country’s education system and instead concentrate on addressing the challenges faced by teachers. “We beg you politicians, stop playing political football with our exams. Let us maintain our standards. Every examination is different every year,” he stated.
