Adentan Circuit Court Restrains Individuals from Hosting “All-White or All-Black Attire Party” to Prevent Potential Clashes

The Adentan Circuit Court has issued a restraining order against three individuals—Francis Ayenu, Dennis Tawiah, and Michael Ayenu—preventing them from organizing an “All-White or All-Black Attire Party” scheduled for January 1, 2024, in Adenta, Accra. This legal intervention comes as a response to concerns raised by the police, aiming to avert potential clashes and disturbances to public peace in the area.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah, granted an ex-parte motion moved by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo of the Ghana Police Service on December 29, 2023. The restraining order emphasizes the importance of upholding public peace and order, protecting lives and property, and preventing any breach of peace that could arise from the planned event.

The court’s directive explicitly prohibits the respondents—Francis Ayenu, Dennis Tawiah, and Michael Ayenu—from organizing, holding, carrying on, executing, or proceeding with the planned “All-White/All-Black” event or any similar event on January 1, 2024. It also calls for cooperation from the owners or operators of any event center, location, or premises connected to the planned event in ensuring the full execution of the restraining order.

The legal action stems from intelligence received by the police on December 19, 2023, indicating that two factions, led by Francis Ayenu and Dennis Tawiah with Michael Ayenu, were planning conflicting events on December 28, 2023, and January 1, 2024. Despite a prior injunction issued by the Adenta High Court, the police observed that one faction proceeded with the event on December 28, 2023, leading to the current legal intervention to prevent a recurrence on January 1, 2024. The police argued that executing the planned actions could result in a significant breach of peace, urging the court to restrain the involved parties and associated agents from proceeding with the event.
