Hearts of Oak Chairman Criticizes Suspension of Football Activities for Concerts at Accra Sports Stadium

Hearts of Oak’s Executive Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV, has expressed disappointment over the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) decision to suspend football activities at the Accra Sports Stadium throughout December to accommodate concerts.

This directive has led clubs like Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Great Olympics to temporarily relocate from the Accra Sports Stadium. Togbe Afede conveyed his dissatisfaction with the decision and raised questions about its rationale.

In his critique, he stated, “Somebody wakes up and suddenly closes up a sports stadium for a concert. What kind of reasoning is this?” Togbe Afede continued by emphasizing the need for clarity on the purpose of maintaining the stadium, highlighting the irony of closing it for concerts while the Ghana Premier League is in progress.

The closure has resulted in Hearts and Olympics playing their home games at the Baba Yara Stadium, while Accra Lions have chosen the WAFA Park in Sogakope as their temporary venue.
