The Electoral Commission (EC) has praised its efforts in successfully completing the District Level Elections despite encountering various challenges during the process.
Acknowledging one of the major hurdles faced, the EC highlighted the delay in the printing and delivery of ballot papers, leading to disruptions and necessitating the rescheduling of elections in certain electoral areas. Technical challenges with verification machines at numerous polling stations also contributed to a slowdown in the election process.
Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the EC, expressed confidence in the Commission’s performance, emphasizing that the high voter turnout was indicative of its success. He noted that turnout in some electoral areas exceeded 80%.
As the elections in over 200 electoral areas, rescheduled due to challenges, are set to be conducted on Thursday, January 21, 2023, Dr. Asare assured that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure smooth and incident-free proceedings.
In a related development, Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu advocated for the financial autonomy of the Electoral Commission, emphasizing that granting financial independence would contribute to the Commission’s efficiency and independence.
