Nayiri Confers Chieftaincy Title on Vice President Bawumia, Urges Unity in Bawku

The Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Abdulai Mahami Shariga, has called on Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to visit Bawku and work towards uniting various factions involved in the long-standing dispute. Bawku has faced persistent conflicts over the years, adversely affecting economic activities and daily life.

During Dr. Bawumia’s recent visit to the Nayiri, who conferred a chieftaincy title on the Vice President as “Bigangna” (meaning the one who does not discriminate), the Nayiri emphasized the importance of Dr. Bawumia visiting Bawku to engage with stakeholders, including chiefs, to promote peace and unity. The Nayiri expressed optimism that Dr. Bawumia, if elected, would be a president for all, emphasizing his unifying traits.

The Nayiri explained that the title bestowed upon Dr. Bawumia aligns with his demonstrated leadership in unifying people regardless of religion and ethnicity. He urged the Vice President to continue fostering unity.

Responding to the honor, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude and affirmed his commitment to preaching unity, pledging to be a president for all Ghanaians if elected. He emphasized the importance of visiting various parts of Ghana, especially Bawku, to encourage peace among different factions.

Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Abu Jinapor, Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, and several MPs from both the Northern and Southern regions.
