The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has unveiled two innovative digital platforms aimed at streamlining revenue collection for both businesses and the assembly.
Implemented as part of the Urban Governance project within the Twin Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project (TCSPP), these platforms are designed not only to eliminate human interactions, reduce revenue losses, and enhance data accuracy but also to substantially contribute to the realization of projected Internally Generated Funds (IGF) in alignment with the assembly’s development objectives.
The two tools, accessible via USSD Codes: 422500# and 2222115#, facilitate easy payments for business owners by guiding them through a “PROMPT” process.
Mr. John Laste, the Visibility Officer for the Twin Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project, emphasized the pressing need to address the assembly’s long-standing IGF deficit. He stated that this municipal revenue campaign would enhance the capabilities of authorities and rights holders while promoting accountability and good governance.
Furthermore, these digital platforms will aid in establishing a credible database of businesses within the Metropolis. Mr. Laste also revealed that an E-governance Policy is under development to govern the operations of the platform.
Mr. Fred Nyantakyi, the Senior Budget Analyst of the Assembly, noted that the digital platforms would complement the existing payment methods, including bank transfers and cheque payments. He expressed the hope that businesses would actively embrace these platforms, fostering greater accountability in revenue collection, plugging revenue leaks, and advancing good governance.
