Q&A Session with Ihuoma Sonia Uche:

Can you tell us about some of your most memorable acting experiences?

Sonia: I have lots of memorable moments on set. One unforgettable experience was working on “Frank’s Wife,” where I played a naive village girl. It catapulted me into the limelight. Another remarkable one was “Beauty of Karma,” a film in which I portrayed a stepdaughter facing maltreatment. It was emotionally challenging, with many crying scenes. I’ll never forget a moment on that set when I had a big fall with firewood on my head. It still makes me wonder, “What if I had injured myself?”

What inspired you to venture into Nollywood?

Sonia: Acting has always been my passion. You’d often find me in the dance and drama department at church as a child. Growing up, I watched numerous movies with my dad and dreamed of being like Genevieve Nnaji. I ventured into Nollywood because I have a deep love for acting and a desire to bring diverse characters and narratives to life on screen.

As a producer, what kinds of projects do you enjoy working on the most?

Sonia: I relish working on stories that haven’t been told authentically. Projects that resonate with people and convey strong social messages deeply connect with movie lovers. These are the ones I find most fulfilling.

How did you come up with the idea for Premium Pictures Studios?

Sonia: Premium Pictures Studios stemmed from my aspiration to create high-quality, culturally rich content in Nigeria that could compete globally. I wanted to provide a platform for talented filmmakers and storytellers to bring their visions to life. It’s all about nurturing talents and telling unique stories.

Could you share insights into the world of film production in Nigeria?

Sonia: Producing a film in Nigeria is a creative yet challenging process. It’s tough but exciting, albeit expensive. Funding and distribution pose significant challenges, and piracy is another concern. Nevertheless, Nollywood has made incredible strides, overcoming these hurdles to deliver fantastic films.

What advice would you give to aspiring actors looking to break into the industry?

Sonia: To aspiring actors, I’d say, stay dedicated to your craft, be persistent, and never stop learning. Humility is key, and learning to accept feedback and criticism is crucial. Most importantly, don’t rush to become a star overnight.

Tell us about your journey as the CEO of Sonia Luxury Hair Extensions. What motivated you to start this business?

Sonia: Starting Sonia Luxury Hair Extensions was driven by my deep love for hair. I get excited when I see or feel good-quality hair, and I wanted to provide top-notch hair products to women. Sonia Luxury Hair Extensions gives me the opportunity to do just that.

How do you balance your roles as an actor, producer, and entrepreneur?

Sonia: Balancing all three roles is challenging; there’s no denying that. Sometimes, it feels like I don’t even have a personal life! laughs At times, I contemplate focusing on film full-time, but my love for my business and the feedback from my clients keep me going. Learning to prioritize based on urgency and importance and having a supportive team help me stay focused and organized.

Are there any upcoming projects or ventures you’re excited about that you can share with us?

Sonia: Yes, I’m currently working on a couple of film projects. Although I can’t reveal them just yet, I promise to share more details in due time.

What is your vision for the future of your career and businesses?

Sonia: My vision is to continue growing as an actor, producer, and entrepreneur, making a positive impact in the entertainment industry. For my business, I’m keen on expanding Sonia Luxury Hair Extensions into new markets, as it has already captured the attention of customers far and wide.

Tell us more about yourself. Let’s get to know more about your childhood and family background?

At age 6, I moved to live with my father in Ibusa, Delta State, where I completed my Junior Secondary School education.
