The eagerly anticipated debut of the Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup, set to take place on Sunday, August 20, has been unexpectedly canceled just 48 hours before the planned match.
Preparations were in full swing for a clash between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium, forming a central part of the festivities commemorating the Homowo festival.
Nonetheless, with only two days remaining until kick-off, event organizers have officially announced the abrupt cancellation of the fixture. This decision comes as a result of a request made by the Great Olympics team to withdraw from their participation in the match.
Asked on Joy FM’s Game Plan on Friday on the club’s decision to withdraw from the game, Saint Osei, who speaks for Olympics said: “It is not taking our fans for granted. We have 48 hours to the match day.”
“There is ample time for anyone who has something doing to return to do it.”
The Homowo Cup has not been played in the last two years due to similar actions from at least one of the two teams.
