Ghana Athletics Reveals Strong Contingent for World Athletics Championships in Budapest

Accra, August 11, 2023: Ghana Athletics has unveiled its formidable lineup of athletes set to compete in the upcoming World Athletics Championships, set to take place in Budapest. The carefully curated roster boasts a mix of seasoned champions and rising stars, all prepared to showcase their prowess on the international stage.

Leading the charge is Joseph Paul Amoah, renowned as Ghana’s record holder in the 200 metres with an impressive time of 20.08 seconds. Amoah’s accolades include a prestigious bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, a historic achievement that marked Ghana’s first medal since 1978.

In addition to his individual accomplishments, Amoah played a pivotal role in securing Ghana’s relay national record at the World Championships in Oregon, contributing to a stellar run of 38.07 seconds.

The Ghanaian contingent further boasts remarkable talent, with athletes including Isaac Botsio, James Dadzie (who holds a remarkable time of 19.79 seconds), Sarfo Ansah, and Edwin Kwabla Gadayi.

The women’s lineup is equally compelling, featuring Rose Yeboah, who recently clinched a gold medal at the University Games in Chengdu, China, achieving a national record jump of 1.94 meters. Deborah Acquah, a distinguished bronze medalist in last year’s Commonwealth Games, adds further depth and determination to the roster.

Preparations for the event are in full swing, with Team Ghana currently undergoing rigorous training sessions in Paris. The athletes are honing their skills and fine-tuning their performances in anticipation of the championship, which is scheduled to commence on August 19, 2023.
