The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has recently ruled to overturn all penalties imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on the players allegedly involved in a match-fixing game between Inter Allies and AshantiGold SC.
The GFA’s Disciplinary Committee had sanctioned 21 players, finding them guilty of manipulating the results of a Ghana Premier League game during the 34th match day two seasons ago. Consequently, they were banned from participating in football activities.
In response to the bans, the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) appealed to CAS through the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), seeking a reversal of the decision. CAS granted the players permission to register for the 2022/23 season, allowing them to continue playing while the case was being reviewed.
After months of deliberation, CAS has now rendered its decision, annulling all the sanctions previously imposed on the players. As a result, they are now eligible to participate in competitive football once again.
Below is the decision from CAS:
The Ghana FA has also been ordered to pay the players $7,357 with each player expected to receive $345.77 in compensation.
