New Patriotic Party’s National Council of Elders Addresses Concerns on Super Delegates’ Congress Register

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council of Elders has reassured flagbearer aspirants that it will take decisive action to address all concerns related to the register to be used for the upcoming super delegates’ congress. The party’s National Executive Committee has been diligently finalizing the list for the congress, scheduled to take place on August 26.

However, several presidential aspirants have expressed objections to the party’s process for cleaning the Special Electoral College register. One of the aspirants, Kwabena Agyapong, raised concerns about the potential for manipulation if certain members of the register were replaced.

In response to the aspirants’ concerns, Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, assured that the party’s leadership would involve the aspirants in the decision-making process after the National Executive Council (NEC) takes a decision on Thursday. He emphasized that the aspirants are critical stakeholders in the election and that the party is committed to conducting a clean and transparent election.

Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Chairman of the Council of Elders, emphasized that aspirants must trust that the leadership will make fair and impartial decisions to ensure an even playing field. He stressed that the National Council will carefully listen to all parties involved, adhering to the party’s rules of procedure. Agyemang further asserted that the rules of the party will not be biased in favor of any particular aspirant, and the ultimate goal is to conduct a clean and fair election.

Regarding allegations of favoritism, Agyemang dismissed such claims, stating that during the lead-up to such events, various allegations are often made, but the party is dedicated to finding solutions that satisfy everyone involved.

As the NPP’s super delegates’ congress draws near, the party’s leadership is working diligently to address concerns, uphold transparency, and ensure a smooth electoral process. The involvement of aspirants in the decision-making process signals the party’s commitment to conducting a fair and credible election.
