Chelsea Unveils Sponsorless Home Kit for 2023-24 Season

Chelsea Football Club has revealed their home kit for the upcoming 2023-24 season, without featuring a front-of-shirt sponsor. The previous shirt deal with telecommunications company Three expired at the end of the last season and was not renewed.

Chelsea’s attempts to secure a sponsorship agreement with streaming service Paramount+ were blocked by the Premier League due to concerns about upsetting their existing broadcast rights holders. Additionally, the club decided against partnering with an online gambling company, a decision supported by the club’s supporters’ trust.

In April, the Premier League announced plans to phase out gambling sponsors from the front of shirts by the end of the 2025-26 season. While Chelsea intends to have a front-of-shirt sponsor this season, it is expected that the club will go on their pre-season tour of the United States without one. The initial sales of the kit to supporters are also expected to be sponsorless.

Nottingham Forest faced a similar situation last season, starting their campaign without a shirt sponsor. This situation highlights the complexities involved in securing sponsorship deals.

Chelsea initially pursued a partnership with Paramount+, but the Premier League vetoed the arrangement to alleviate concerns from current broadcasters. The club is currently in talks with alternative sponsors. Despite the ongoing negotiations, Chelsea decided to release the kit ahead of the season to allow fans to purchase it in August, in time for the start of the season. The shirt will be available for sale on the club’s website and in their shop from August 16, three days after their opening Premier League match against Liverpool, and will go on wide sale from August 23.
