Vice President Advocates for Clean Campaigning in NPP Flagbearership Race

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged all candidates in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race to maintain a clean and harmonious campaign environment as the competition intensifies.

With ten individuals vying for the party’s flagbearership, allegations of negative campaigning have emerged, prompting Dr. Bawumia to address party delegates during the final day of his tour in the Greater Accra region. He emphasized the need for unity within the party to confront their primary opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted, “The campaign we are currently engaged in is an internal election. Our main enemy in 2024 is the NDC. As we embark on this campaign, let us refrain from speaking against each other.” He stressed the importance of conducting a peaceful and fair campaign, without derogatory remarks towards fellow candidates. According to him, the NPP will require the collective effort of all members to confront the NDC effectively.

Demonstrating his commitment to a clean campaign, the Vice President revealed that he has instructed his campaign staff and supporters to be cautious with their language, prioritizing party unity. He stated, “I have told all my supporters and spokespersons that we want a clean campaign, and they should not engage in insults or personal attacks.”

Dr. Bawumia concluded his Greater Accra campaign tour with a visit to the Obom Domeabra constituency over the weekend. As the flagbearership race progresses, his call for a clean campaign serves as a reminder of the party’s aim to maintain unity and focus on the larger goal of keeping the NPP in power and preventing the return of the NDC.
