Former NDC Deputy IT Director Challenges NPP to Disclose Assin North By-Election Results

A former Deputy Director of IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Gyeke Dako, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disclose the collated results from the recently concluded by-election in Assin North. Mr. Gyeke Dako argues that this challenge aligns with the NPP’s own practice of displaying their collated results in elections, which he believes helps reduce unnecessary tensions.

Mr. Gyeke Dako questions why the NPP has failed to disclose the collated results from the Assin North by-election if they believe in the importance of transparency. In an interview with the media, he explains that the NDC temporarily withholds election results from public view as a strategic move, allowing the party to navigate post-election dynamics with a clear understanding of their position.

The Assin North constituency has been a center of controversy since the parliamentary elections in 2020. Initially, the NDC’s James Gyakye Quayson was declared the winner, but his eligibility was later challenged due to dual citizenship claims, leading to the annulment of the election and a subsequent by-election. However, Mr. Quayson retained the seat in a resounding victory at the polls on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

Mr. Gyeke Dako emphasizes the significance of transparency and openness in the electoral processes, urging all parties involved to prioritize the will of the people and uphold the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.
