James Gyakye Quayson, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Assin North by-election, has expressed his commitment to assisting the children of a fellow party member who tragically lost her life in an accident during the campaign.
Quayson has pledged to provide a welfare endowment package of ¢500 per month for each of the four children, ensuring their well-being and upbringing. As a result, each of the surviving children will receive ¢2,000 in monthly upkeep funds.
To demonstrate the sincerity of his commitment, Mr. Quayson has already made a one-year deposit of ¢24,000 into the Children’s Welfare Endowment Fund.
Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, announced this initiative during the one-week funeral ceremony for the deceased party member. Additionally, Gyamfi highlighted that Mr. Quayson has also pledged to cover the full cost of medical treatment for one of the children with glaucoma at the Interbeton Hospital in Cape Coast.
“Hon. James Gyakye Quayson has pledged a welfare endowment package of GH500.00 every month towards the upbringing of each of the four surviving children.”
“This brings their monthly upkeep to an amount of GH2,000.00. As a demonstration of his personal commitment to this cause, Hon. James Gyakye made a one-year deposit of GH24,000.00 into the Children’s Welfare Endowment fund, with a further pledge to bear the full cost of medical treatment for one of the kids with glaucoma at the Interbeton Hospital.”
Meanwhile, the party has further assured the family of its support “towards a befitting burial and funeral in honour of our fallen Comrade and her children.”
The woman was confirmed dead with several others injured in a road accident at Dansame, a community in the Assin North constituency.
According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred when one of the front tyres of the vehicle got burst.
When it happened, former president John Mahama and his entourage suspended their campaign to commiserate with the family of the deceased.
