Bolgatanga Central MP Challenges Vice President Bawumia to Debate

Adongo accuses Bawumia of lacking contribution to the economy and urges him to face scrutiny

Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament (MP), Isaac Adongo, has issued a challenge to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to engage in a debate focused on Ghana’s economy and its digitalization agenda. Adongo, who serves as the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, criticized Dr Bawumia for allegedly failing to make any significant contributions to the economy during his six-year tenure.

Speaking at a media briefing held at Parliament on June 21, Mr Adongo expressed his readiness to confront Dr Bawumia on various economic issues. He extended an invitation to the Vice President to choose the debate venue, select his own moderator, and engage in a comprehensive discussion on the subject matter.

Adongo further accused Dr Bawumia of resorting to deceitful tactics due to his alleged shortcomings in managing the economy, likening him to a “Yahoo boy.” He demanded that the Vice President present evidence of his accomplishments in building digital infrastructure, emphasizing that the days of unquestioning trust in Dr Bawumia were long gone.

Undeterred by the challenge, Adongo affirmed that he would be willing to respond to Dr Bawumia’s statements and refute any false or misleading claims made during the debate. He urged the Vice President to awaken from his slumber and initiate the discussion, promising to be prepared with extensive knowledge and reference materials.

In a separate matter, the Bolgatanga Central MP addressed rumors about his potential candidacy to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 elections. Adongo stated that he had no objections to being chosen as their flagbearer but emphasized the importance of factual accuracy in political discourse leading up to the polls. He cautioned against taking the people of Ghana for granted and urged all candidates to prioritize truthfulness in their campaigns.
