Kwabena Agyapong Enters Race for New Patriotic Party Presidential Primaries

Kwabena Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially submitted his nomination to participate in the party’s presidential primaries. On Wednesday, June 21, Mr. Agyapong filed his candidacy at the party’s headquarters, joining a growing list of contenders.

In a press statement following the filing, Agyapong emphasized the need for the party to move beyond empty slogans and embrace innovative solutions to address the challenges facing Ghana. He outlined his vision, which centers around inclusivity, economic growth, and sustainable development.

He stated, “The country deserves a new dawn and a new direction and a new face that would be able to connect with the Ghanaian people and restore the confidence that Ghanaians have in the constitution, and that I represent.”

Agyapong’s entry brings the total number of aspirants who have filed their nomination forms to eight. Among them are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Dr. Konadu Apraku, and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

The NPP is set to elect its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections on November 4, 2023. However, due to the significant number of candidates, the party has scheduled a Special Congress on August 26 to narrow down the field to five contenders.
