During his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed his appreciation for the invaluable contributions of grassroots members to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Addressing party stakeholders in Ashaiman and Tema on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia commended the efforts of all stakeholders and emphasized the significant role played by grassroots members in the party’s success.
Dr. Bawumia dismissed the notion that only financial contributions determine the value of one’s support for the party. He highlighted that every individual within the party makes diverse contributions that collectively contribute to the progress and success of the NPP. These contributions encompass not only financial support but also ideas, on-the-ground campaigning, and the display of party posters.
He stated, “Everyone in this party contributes to the progress and success of the party, so let no one tell you that they have spent money, so they have contributed more than you. Everyone contributes in diverse ways… Some contribute money, some contribute ideas, and many of you are on the ground contributing; some go round and campaign on foot, and some go round to file party posters. These are all collective contributions which help the party.”
Dr. Bawumia further emphasized the sacrifices made by party members, including physical injuries, hardships, and even loss of life while serving the party. He recounted the instrumental role played by party executives and members at the grassroots level during the gathering of evidence for the NPP’s landmark 2012 Election Petition at the Supreme Court.
He remarked, “An example of your immense contributions to the party at the grassroots level is how all of you worked so hard and gathered pink sheets across the country for us to be able to gather evidence for the 2012 Election Petition at the Supreme Court. We could not have done it successfully without your contributions right from the base. It is not all about money but also many people’s collective dedication and diverse contributions.”
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted his own contributions to the NPP, both during his time in opposition as a running mate and in government as Vice President. He listed various reasons and policies that support his candidacy as the next leader of the NPP in the upcoming 2024 elections.
The Vice President’s acknowledgment of grassroots members’ contributions serves to recognize their efforts and reinforce their importance in the party’s achievements.
